As the staggered eyelet pattern is worked and sts are decreased each RS row, it is necessary to adjust the pattern to assure the eyelets are staggered.
STAGGERED EYELET PATTERN
(multiple of 4 sts plus 2)
Row 1 Knit.
Row 2 Purl.
Row 3 *K2, k2tog, yo; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 4 Purl.
Rep rows 1–4 for staggered eyelet pat.
Cast on 204 sts. Work in garter st for 8 rows, dec’ing 2 sts on last row—202 sts.
Next row (RS) K1, ssk, work in staggered eyelet pat to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1—2 sts dec’d.
Next row Work even in pat.
Rep last 2 rows until 4-row staggered eyelet pat has been worked 34 times, then work rows 1 and 2 once more—64 sts.
